Language is a vital part of human connection. Although all species have their ways of communicating, humans are the only ones that have mastered cognitive language communication. Language allows us to share our ideas, thoughts and feelings with others. It has the power to build societies, but also tear them down. Learning of a language is an active process that begins at birth and continues throughout life. Students learn language as they use it to communicate their thoughts, feelings and experiences. Learning a new language involves listening, speaking, reading, writing, sometimes even a new alphabet and writing format. Language learning contributes an important means to communicate and interact in order to participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world. This interaction develops the disposition to explore the perspectives behind the products and practices of a culture and to value such intercultural experiences.
Some of the most in demand Foreign Languages in India are Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Korean and Italian. These languages are popular due to the growing trade and business relationships between India and these countries. International relations are extended and strengthened through the exchange of scientific, technical and cultural information. In this situation Foreign Language teaching is a matter of state significance.
The Institute of Foreign languages was established in the year 1976, with the introduction of French and Russian languages, later the German language was also added. In near future we intend to introduce Chinese and Spanish languages too. The primary objective is to make foreign language teaching an integrated component of learning program, oriented to the needs of the society with special reference to increasing employment potential of an individual.
